I was stunned when my friend asked me if I had started my Christmas shopping yet!! Apparently there are only 85 days left. My first response was to almost laugh, amused at how ridiculous this was…and then I remember how every year I never having enough time. I end up madly searching the Internet, placing orders, crossing my fingers things will arrive in time and wishing I had been more organised. For one or two days of the year it is amazing the time and effort involved.
Our first Michaelmas Fair at Mayfield was September 25th and there was a huge turnout. I could hear customers talking about the fact they had started their Christmas shopping and comparing notes. We had another wonderful response and lots of bears ordered in time for Christmas. We have just completed two tartan bears for two little boys as a unique gift for Christmas from their Grandfather. The handmade teddy bears were made from a much loved tartan blanket, kilt and other tartan cloth. He wanted some braces to be included as the two little boys love to ping his braces. We used one pair of tartan braces to create a pair for each bear. This year we are also offering gift vouchers which make unique gifts for godchildren and grandchildren so they can design and their own handmade bear.
Feeling inspired to be organised. I started to think through the list of people I need to buy for. One stall had delicious Toffee Vodka …two bottles bought one each for my brothers in law. http://www.thundervodka.com Tick! Next to me was a fantastic toy and gadget stall. Australian nephews and nieces sorted with a host of electronic and quirky gifts. Tick! All in all by the time I had finished I had bought presents for all my nephews, nieces and godchildren. I felt incredibly chuffed with my new organised self. I had even remembered the request from a child’s letter to Father Christmas once…
‘Dear Santa. If you bring presents, please bring batteries!”
So batteries duly purchased. The danger now is feeling so smug, nothing else will be bought until mid December!
We have so many new fairs we are attending this year, which is very exciting, many based in different counties such as Surrey and Buckinghamshire and a host of events in London. We have also had to turn down quite a few but have offered raffle prizes. I have decided to try and buy as many gifts as I can from some of the fantastic British and local businesses that attend these fairs. The Toffee Vodka Company is based 5 miles away so that was a good start. Finding unique gifts is always a task but I realised that there are so many great ideas out there.
I have often wandered around these lovely events but waited to purchase thinking I will make a list and start the process nearer Christmas. These wonderful fairs however are the perfect place to spend a lovely morning, have coffee and cake and get ahead of the game. Rather than fighting the crowds in town I can support local and British in a relaxed atmosphere.
We have a full list of fairs this year including The Rare Brand Fair on 13h/14th/15th of November at Goodwood. It is very stylish Christmas Fair with over 100 different unique and rare brands. The Poppinghole Christmas Fair in Robertsbridge which also features a host of local businesses in a wonderful festive atmosphere.

We are still busy in our workshop making bears and are gearing up for the Christmas season. As always we have many bears made from school uniform, but also a host of handmade bears have been crafted from a wonderul wide seletion of special clothing. We will always deliver bears within 2 – 4 weeks from receipt of clothing but our gift vouchers make a wonderful and personal gift. Children love designing their own bear and always come up with some wonderful and unique ideas. If you quote the code below there is also a 10% discount ☺
