The eagerly awaited birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Kate and Williams first child finally came on July 22nd with the arrival of Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge. The couple were clearly delighted and like any new parents probably slightly apprehensive about taking their precious bundle home!
The birth of any child is always a very special time. Although at the time the sleepless nights and endless feeding can be exhausting, looking back it seems no time ago that my own babies were tiny bundles. I look at my three 15 year olds and 17 year old and think ‘when did they suddenly grow up – when did that happen?!’
We were delighted when early on, just after Blazer Bear was formed we were asked to make a couple of Bears for a mothers’ two children from their first babygros as a memorable keepsake. Although cutting into such tiny precious garments was nerve wracking, creating such a unique gift as a result was very rewarding.
Since then we have made a number of Blazer Bears from special baby memorabilia – just the other week we were asked to build a bear from a child’s mussys! The mother asked if this would be possible as her son had loved his ‘mussys’ but she felt he was too old to be carrying those around – so felt a ‘mussy bear’ was the perfect solution. We were absolutely delighted with the result. There were three different coloured muslins and each had a dear little bear in the corner. We incorporated this into the ears, paws and on the front of the bear. To complete the look we made mussy bear a scarf from the leftovers.
Most people do keep their babies first babygros and or some favourite clothing. Our customers who have had their children’s first babygros and made into Blazer Bears feel it is a perfect way to keep the precious memories of the special baby days tangible.
Indeed I found a bag full of my children’s’ baby clothes the other day including the tiny clothes they wore home from hospital – I look forward to making them into bears, so then I can see the fabrics rather than being in the cupboard!
A Babygro or baby related Blazer Bear makes a unique gift for any proud parents. I wonder if Carole and Michael Middleton would like to celebrate the birth of their first grandchild by having a Blazer Bear made from Georges first baby clothes…. how we would love to make that :)
Friends since their first children were born, Pru and Kathy are two mums whose children are now at secondary school. As a special keepsake Pru made each of her children a teddy bear out of their old school Blazers. Kathy loved the concept so they joined forces and Blazer Bear. was born. Find out more
