Each Blazer Bear we make tells a story. We love imagining what each item of clothing has witnessed; exams taken, friendships made, achievements, and disappointments… endless experiences of life.
The last couple of weeks have seen a variety of Bears ranging from 2 lovely Cheltenham Ladies’ College junior school Blazer Bears to a handsome rust tartan Bear where the customer loved the fabric so much she supplied us with a length of it together with buttons for the eyes.
Speaking of stories we were very interested to hear that Nottingham High School, an independent school for boys aged 4-18 has been celebrating its 500 year anniversary this year and the grand finale is being held today with a family fun day. It sounds like a super day with well over 1200 people attending. Being such a remarkable date we have offered to make them a 500 year commemorative Blazer Bear – we really look forward to receiving their uniform and making such a special bear.
As the school year draws to a close, we have been busy attending fairs. Our summer fair season began on Saturday with lovely days (despite the weather!) at the fairs of both Combe Bank School in Sevenoaks, Kent and White Lodge, Royal Ballet Lower School in Richmond, Surrey.
The atmosphere at Combe Bank was friendly and inviting, and even though the wind nearly caused some of the gazebos to become airborne, the fair was highly enjoyable and a real success.
The Royal Ballet Lower School made the decision to have all non food related stalls inside. Given the wind and intermittent splashes of rain this was a very welcome decision!
The dancing however went ahead on the magnificent outdoor stage. It was truly amazing to watch the perfection of each performance. Training for 4 hours every day, equal numbers of boys and girls from years 7 to 11 (age 11 to 16) performed a variety of dances ranging from Swan Lake to Scottish dancing. The spectacle of the costumes and the beautiful setting of White Lodge in the middle of Richmond Park meant the whole day was thoroughly enjoyable.
We are very excited to be attending the Wimbledon Fair next Saturday 22nd June. Every summer 20,000 people flock to Wimbledon Common to enjoy a marvellous day organised by the Wimbledon Guild. All proceeds from the fair go to the Wimbledon Guild, which in turn provides vital support to the local community.
We are really looking forward to not only running our stall but visiting all the other amazing stalls, eating the delicious food and watching what sounds like great entertainment! On display we will have a large number of examples of all our different Bears, and to mark the start of Wimbledon tennis on Monday 24th June we have made a ‘Wimbledon Bear’ out of a tennis outfit – complete with Wimbledon tennis badge and the green and purple Wimbledon colours incorporated in the bears paws, eyes and tummy.
Please do come to Wimbledon Common and meet us and our Bears – the fair is in aid of a great cause and we’d love to see you there!
Friends since their first children were born, Pru and Kathy are two mums whose children are now at secondary school. As a special keepsake Pru made each of her children a teddy bear out of their old school Blazers. Kathy loved the concept so they joined forces and Blazer Bear. was born. Find out more
