Summer Fairs

Posted on June 10, 2013 By Blazer Bear

The season for school and summer fairs is underway! Having both been parents who have been active members of the PTA we know how much work, time and effort goes into these events. I always admire those who donate their time to raise money for schools or charities. Without these volunteers so much money would never be raised for such worthy causes. They are also great fun, a chance for families to have a fantastic day out!

We always keep our fingers crossed for summer weather…well no rain at least. The British stiff upper lip always prevails regardless however! Pru and I have some very funny memories of literally holding our gazebo down holding on for dear life in force 10 gales, with the fear of Blazer Bear being airborne at any moment.

We attend such a variety of fairs during the year and it is a great chance to meet new and old customers alike. The school fairs are great fun and we love discussing how we can handcraft and build a bear for each school. The children often flock to the stand excited when they see there very own school uniform Blazer Bear in pride of place at the front of our stall. We always try to have a sample of the school we are attending. It is a great chance for summer leavers to pick up their postage bags or year group reps to discuss organising group orders.

When we attend the larger fairs such as Wimbledon Village Fair or Rare Brands we enjoy displaying the huge variety of bears from brownies bears, rugby bears to bridesmaid bears and introducing the concept to new areas and customers.

These summer fairs are full of stalls selling wonderful unique gifts whether for home and garden or as with Wimbledon Fair the keen horse enthusiast. We have made a bear from a beautiful tweed riding jacket, with velvet trim on the pockets and ears, and velvet covered buttons. It has a variety of pony club badges and rosettes pinned to the front.

This weekend Saturday 15th of June, one of us will be at the Royal Ballet School fair at White Lodge, Richmond. We have made lots of ballet bears either from leotards or using a selection of performance outfits. We will also be at Combe Bank Summer Fair, which we are really looking forward to. A fantastic day is planned with bouncy castles, games and stalls.

On Saturday June 22nd we have a fair at Hilden Grange School and also our first visit to Wimbledon Village Fair, run by Wimbledon Guild. It looks to be a superb event . Every summer 20,000 people come to Wimbledon Common to enjoy fresh food, lively entertainment, handmade arts & crafts and the largest horse show within the M25. All proceeds go to the Wimbledon Guild. Last year they raised £27,000, which went straight to delivering services to the local community.

On June 27th we are at the Rare Brands Fair in Chichester. A unique chance to shop in a beautiful environment where over 50 Rare Brands will be exhibiting. There will be a huge range of products, workshops and delicious food to sample.

So come and join us at one of these fantastic events. Come and say hello, mention this blog and we will offer you a 10% discount on a Blazer Bear! Fingers crossed for sunshine ☺

How did it start?

tplFriends since their first children were born, Pru and Kathy are two mums whose children are now at secondary school. As a special keepsake Pru made each of her children a teddy bear out of their old school Blazers. Kathy loved the concept so they joined forces and Blazer Bear. was born.  Find out more

How does it work?

Whether it be a blazer, school uniform, rugby shirts, precious clothing babygros, the list is endless. Everything is lovingly handcrafted entirely from what you give us. If it is a group school order you are after, we can often source the fabrics and even incorporate a school emblem Find out
