The End of the School Year Approaches

Posted on June 2, 2013 By Blazer Bear

The final half term holiday of the current academic year is drawing to a close; all the very best to everyone returning to school to face exams – Common Entrance, GSCEs, AS’s, A levels or even just year group exams.

At Blazer Bear we are coming up to one of our busiest times of year. The end of the Academic year yields many leavers, whether it be yr 6 or Year 8 moving to the exciting, and sometimes daunting challenges of Secondary school. Year 11 leavers moving to sixth form colleges or just moving to another school for 6th form and not to forget the A level leavers who soon will be facing work, a motivating gap year or the excitement of University.

We love making our Leavers’ Blazer Bears. As Blazer Bear was only launched in December 2011, last year was our first experience of groups of leavers. We loved making many Bears for our multiple orders for schools St Ives, Cumnor House, Holmewood House to name but a few. This year we would be very willing to offer a discount to any group orders from schools. We supply mailing bags and a checklist and can even deliver the Blazer Bears back to a single address if that is more convenient.

Whilst making all these lovely Bears we get quite nostalgic and reminiscent of our own school days. School days are filled with memories, which we like to capture in the bear. We sew achievement badges onto the Bears Back and any pins on badges such as House Captain, Prefect or Librarian go on the front. Any part of the uniform can be incorporated somewhere – usually in the paws and ears. Thanks to the Great British Sewing Bee on BBC2 earlier in the year and the demonstration of piping we now love to incorporate piping down the Bears’ middle!

The start of this half term also signals the start of many School Summer Fairs that we are really looking forward to attending. Our season begins with two fairs on Saturday 15th June. One of us will be attending the Coombe Bank summer fair in the school’s beautiful grounds in Sevenoaks. And the other at the Royal Ballet Lower Schools’ summer fair in the magnificent Richmond Park where ‘White Lodge’ is home to around 130 students age 11 to 16 who aspire to be ballet dancers. We are very much looking forward to both of these events.

School days can be such a special time, if you have a child or young adult coming to the end of their schooldays or a particular school, why not contact us and we can recycle the uniform (any condition welcome!) into a treasured Blazer Bear.

How did it start?

tplFriends since their first children were born, Pru and Kathy are two mums whose children are now at secondary school. As a special keepsake Pru made each of her children a teddy bear out of their old school Blazers. Kathy loved the concept so they joined forces and Blazer Bear. was born.  Find out more

How does it work?

Whether it be a blazer, school uniform, rugby shirts, precious clothing babygros, the list is endless. Everything is lovingly handcrafted entirely from what you give us. If it is a group school order you are after, we can often source the fabrics and even incorporate a school emblem Find out
