This week has been full of excitement and extremely busy, however, not just because we have been making some lovely bears. This weekend was my little brother’s wedding! With 7 bridesmaids, it has been quite a feat to organize all the dresses, fittings and coordinate the shoes. The youngest was 4 and the oldest 23 so the design varied accordingly but worked beautifully as a group. The theme was ivory and cornflower blue, which featured as sashes or bows. The flowers of peonies, roses and lavender freesias were perfect.
Finding the right outfit has been quite a project for myself, mum and sister. We have all searched for that perfect dress, hat and shoes. It was great fun especially as I love wearing hats! It was wonderful seeing all the lovely outfits and array of different hats and fascinators.
The bride herself looked beautiful in her antique ivory dress, with sweeping train and long veil. The detail of tiny crystals and flowers were subtle but just perfect.
The venue was stunning. Poundon House in Poundon, near Bicester. www.poundonhouse.co.uk. The long drive led to the gorgeous stone manor house. The gardens were immaculate, with different terraces and incredible views over the Oxfordshire countryside. There were 12 rooms for the immediate family, which were all beautifully decorated. We felt we were staying in our own country house for the weekend. The staff were so friendly and the breakfast the day after delicious!
Having had drinks in the main house we then walked to the wonderful marquee, which was decorated with the most incredible attention to detail. Surrounded by lawns for the children to play. There was even a sofa area for those who wanted to relax with a cocktail if the dancing was a little to much late at night! I have to say I was on the dance floor!
We have some wonderful memories and now some wonderful bears to make. The bridesmaids’ dresses were gorgeous but within a few months the four younger ones will have grown out of them. Despite what everyone says, you never wear them again. Pru and I are making 4 bridesmaids bears as unique gifts and special keepsakes. The main bear will be made from the ivory silk with the blue silk sash tied around the middle, to a bow at the back with the material draping down. The silk covered buttons will be used as detail on the back. The bride is also specially preserving the gorgeous bouquets, so a few of the flowers can be added as detail.
We have also been asked to make a bear from some of the bride’s train and veil. The amount of material needed is not much so will hardly alter the dress at all as we will take a small piece from the train. The pretty detail and buttons can all be added to build a bear as a keepsake of her special day! We can’t wait to get started on them, as we know they will depict such special memories and be a unique gift and wonderful keepsake.
Friends since their first children were born, Pru and Kathy are two mums whose children are now at secondary school. As a special keepsake Pru made each of her children a teddy bear out of their old school Blazers. Kathy loved the concept so they joined forces and Blazer Bear. was born. Find out more
