Wimbledon

Wimbledon is here!

Two weeks of exciting tennis starts this week and we wish all the fantastic British talent huge success. Andy Murray really has a real chance of winning and Laura Robson has certainly proven she can get into the top 5. We love Wimbledon fortnight but having homegrown talent in the top seeds makes it even more exciting! The queues have already started and there is a buzz around Wimbledon village.

Yesterday we spent a fantastic day at Wimbledon Village Fair, which was brilliantly organized by The Wimbledon Guild. Despite the rather wet and windy start the sun came out, as did the crowds. We met so many lovely people and enjoyed hearing about which famous tennis players they had spotted either jogging through the park or eating in their local restaurants. In honour of our visit we made a Wimbledon Blazer Bear to take pride of place, which was made out of an old tennis sweatshirt as a unique gift.

The fair was not only packed full with some wonderful stalls, but lots of local businesess that are thriving such as Wimbledon Nannies, sports clubs such as Wimbledon FC and support and networking groups like Wimbledon Women in business who were on hand to offer advice. There is so much going on locally in Wimbledon and some great sources of information are www.mumsnet , www.wimbledonsw19.com, and www.localmumsonline.com

There were also some great performances from clubs and schools in Wimbledon proving how much enthusiasm and talent there is in the Wimbledon area, amongst the children and teachers alike!

It is amongst some of these local schools that some of the 250 ball girls and boys at Wimbledon are chosen, from around 700 applicants. We met one ex ball girl at the weekend who would like us to build a bear from some of her old tennis kit and ball girl uniform. We love using sport memorabilia and team outfits to make bears as unique gifts or keepsakes. The bears really do keep those special memories alive.

On Thursday we are attending another fantastic fair The Rare Brands Market. It is part of the events laid on to coincide with the Chichester Festival. The Fair is set at the beautiful Southend Barns. Owned by William and Mariella Fleming, who are passionate about environmentally friendly farming, the barns are set in beautiful countryside and are a stunning and unique new wedding venue near Chichester. Spend a day with friends and shop in beautiful surroundings and viewing new and exciting brands you would not yet see on the high street. The cafe is run by Field and Fork, delicious food from seasonal and local produce. The restaurant is situated in the beautiful Pallant House Chichester but also produces wonderful menus for private events and parties. So come and see us and don’t forget we are offering a 10% discount on the day!

How did it start?

tplFriends since their first children were born, Pru and Kathy are two mums whose children are now at secondary school. As a special keepsake Pru made each of her children a teddy bear out of their old school Blazers. Kathy loved the concept so they joined forces and Blazer Bear. was born.  Find out more

How does it work?

Whether it be a blazer, school uniform, rugby shirts, precious clothing babygros, the list is endless. Everything is lovingly handcrafted entirely from what you give us. If it is a group school order you are after, we can often source the fabrics and even incorporate a school emblem Find out
