This is the time of year when we get some lovely thank you letters for Blazer Bears that have arrived as children and young adults start new schools and universities. Our handmade school uniform keepsakes can be a comfort and a reminder of happy memories as school nervously start pastures new. Starting afresh takes time, as they build new friendships and to get to know new routines and expectations.
As parents are biggest wish is for our children to be happy. You can often be surrounded by so many points of view and opinions it can feel overwhelming. It is so important to match your child with the right school and not be swayed by others opinions and trends.

Blazer Bear closed the workshop for 3 weeks this summer as we went off on our respective holidays. We returned to a mountain of green bags!! It was quite exciting to open all the packages to see where they had come from and what was inside!! With so many children starting new schools we have had a host of leavers keepsake bears to make all adorned with memories of their time at school.
There were packages from all over England from Jersey to Scotland and even orders from Dubai and Australia. Since our return we have all been beavering away to make sure all the bears get to their new owners as quickly as possible and this week all the summer ones should be sent! I am a student in year 11 at Tunbridge Wells Girls’ Grammar School. This week I spent a few days completing work experience at the Blazer Bear workshop!
Before starting, I had no idea about the sort of implications involved with running a business. During my time there, I learnt a lot about the intimate details that I didn’t realise were so important in the manufacturing of the keepsake bears. It was so interesting to see the entire process from start to finish, as well as learning about the admin and management side of things. I particularly enjoyed dressing the bears, cleaning and labelling them so they were ready to be sent off.

We have absolutely loved making some gorgeous Girl Guide keepsake bears. When we were first contacted by the customer she did not have any uniform, simply the badges and one old shirt. The solution was to purchase the cotton in the same colour and create a bear from this material. To ensure strength and structure we lined the material once the pattern was cut and proceeded to make two keepsake bears. Friends since their first children were born, Pru and Kathy are two mums whose children are now at secondary school.
